Sunday Evening Flute & Piano

Lauderdale House, Long Gallery, N6 5HG , [Venue Details]

Nancy and Dominic’s programme introduces hidden gems from across the world, with music from Germany, Italy, the USA, Argentina, Spain, France, Hungary and the UK.

The Sonata Undine by Carl Reinecke shows off the lush sonorities of the flute, and the piano provides a virtuosic accompaniment.

The Hungarian composer Erno Dohnanyi wrote his Aria for flute and piano in 1958 and its style can be described as late 20th century Romantic. A rather neglected composer is the Italian Alfredo Casella. Nancy and Dominic perform his Sicilienne et Burlesque, which was composed just as WWI broke out. Canzone, by Samuel Barber, is actually the composer’s own transcription from the second movement of his Piano Concerto op. 38.

In contrast to these Romantic compositions, Nancy and Dominicwill also be performing the tango-inspired piece Oblivion by the Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla, the jazzy and evocative Hypnosis by British composer Ian Clarke, short pieces by Busoni and Messiaen, and Dominic will perform a selection of the Tonadas by Joaquin Nin-Culmell for solo piano. These beautiful piano pieces are versions of traditional Spanish songs and dances.

Join Nancy and Dominic as they traverse the centuries and continents with their varied and tantalising programme for a relaxing Sunday evening of beautiful music.
