Listing ALL London's live music

Royal Albert Hall, Elgar Room, SW7 2AP, [Venue Details]

DETAILS Enjoy inspirational performances of music by Mozart, Schönberg and Prokofiev,
performed by outstanding young performers Maria Gîlicel and Tolga Ün from the Royal College of Music, whilst enjoying a hot drink and a pastry in the Hall’s Elgar Room.

“Unusual from many points of view, Mozart’s stunning K.304 Sonata was written whilst on tour and carries with it the darkness caused by the loss of Mozart’s ill mother.

After returning to Russia in the 1930s, the homesick Prokofiev wrote his Sonata Op.80 in response to Stalin’s terrorising tyranny and carries with it notes of pain and despair caused by a turbulent time in which coming home didn’t equal either sense of happiness or relief.

This recital programme is intended to reflect on... the inevitability of loss and pain, and the ultimate longing for a better world.” – Maria Gillicel
