"WHEN SWING WAS KING" - THE BILL GELDARD BIG BAND

The 17 piece Bill Geldard Band presents a programme of hits from the legendary orchestras of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller amongst others. Items will include timeless classics such as ‘One O’clock Jump’, ‘Take the A Train’, ‘Airmail Special’ and ‘String of Pearls’.

Chrissie Scott will sing songs by George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Harold Arlen that are associated with the great jazz divas, including Peggy Lee’s ‘I Love Being Here with You’, Billie Holiday’s ‘Our Love is Here to Stay’ and Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘That Old Black Magic’.

The band comprises professional musicians and talented long-term members who have worked
with its founder, Bill Geldard, for many years. A session trombone player and sideman in the Ted
Heath and John Dankworth orchestras, Bill is also a celebrated arranger/composer and the band still enjoys playing many of his great arrangements. It is now directed by the BBC Big Band conductor Barry Forgie.
