Nneka was born and raised in Warri, the Delta region of Nigeria. At the age of 19, she moved to Germany and enrolled in Hamburg University to study Anthropology.

It was during these student years, Nneka honed her craft as a singer-songwriter and her music career was born. Following the footsteps of legendary artists such Fela Kuti and Bob Marley, Nneka drew a lot of influence and inspiration from her experiences and carved an authentic voice with a message in her music.

Her politically charged lyrics pushed her to the forefront as one of Africa’s powerful voices. Nneka’s lyrics lays bare a variety of everyday life issues that range from heartbreak, disdain for gossip, motherly-love, and the quest for justice.
